WELCOME

 Wa gwan 😀!

That's Antiguan for what's up? Welcome to Wadadli Musings

Nelson Mandela famously stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." This is something I believe with every fibre of my being and is the reason I am still an educator today.

My name is Sharon Kelsick from the beautiful island of Dominica. I now reside in Antigua, where I have lived since the age of 6. I am a mother of 2 beautiful boys who I share with my wonderful husband of 5 years.

I began my teaching career on the 24th of November, 2008. For the first 11 years of my career, I taught Spanish to secondary school students (grades 7 to 11). I currently serve as the Vice Principal at my school, and I have aspirations of one day becoming a principal.

I am passionate about education and about doing my part to improve the education system within my nation. I am currently a part of a seven-member team tasked with implementing and maintaining the Google Suite for Education currently in use in all public primary and secondary schools on the island to facilitate online learning. I had always had my reservations when it came to integrating technology in the classroom. I never felt confident or capable enough to move beyond the occasional use of my laptop or a radio. However, the onset of the global pandemic last year forced us as a nation and as educators to reflect on our practices and take the necessary steps towards integrating technology in the classroom.

In this vein, I decided to pursue a graduate degree that focused on leadership in education and the integration of technology in education. Technology has weaved its way into every facet of our societies and lives. We can no longer deny its presence and the need to adequately equip our students with the technological skills needed to function within these societies. This blog will focus on my growth throughout this degree and highlight how the knowledge and skills acquired over my study will positively impact my education system.

Welcome aboard the Wadadli train! I'll be seeing you soon 🙋
